Abia state’s 17-year-old one-day Governor, Nicholas Ogunji of Adventist Technical Secondary School, Ohafia embarked on an official outing of setting some inmates free. Governor Ikpeazu who revealed that Nicholas is the third One-Day-Governor under his administration, said part of his first official outing was a visit to the Afaraukwu Correctional Centre where he helped free some inmates after paying off their fines. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Sunday December 20, announced that 501 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded in the country. The health agency gave a breakdown of the new cases as follows; Lagos-218, FCT-112, Kaduna-53, Plateau-24, Katsina-21, Kano-16, Yobe-14, Ondo-10, Ogun-9, Edo-7, Bayelsa-5, Rivers-4, Borno-4, Osun-2, Ekiti-2. There are now 78,434 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria and 1,221 deaths have been recorded. 68,303 patients who recovered from the disease have also been discharged.

The national assembly joint committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recommended voting right for married underage girls to the electoral commission. The red chamber joint panel made the recommendation to a technical committee which will work on the new electoral act proposed by the federal lawmakers, even though the constitution currently places the eligible age for voting at 18. A young woman identified as Egbe Ogocukwu Rita, who was declared missing at Uwelu-Ibeku in Opi Town, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been found dead. According to reports, her body was discovered on Saturday, December 19, with multiple stab wounds and some of her pubic hair removed.
